- The Cathedral, founded
in 1086 by the first bishop of Ravello Orso Papirio. The
bronze portal is by Parisano di Trani, it was built in
1179 in Constantinople and “was
brought by sea”; it’s divided into 54 squares
portraying saints, the Passion, lions and gryphons. The
pulpit is by Bartolomeo da Foggia (1272), it is dedicated
to San Pantaleone and keeps his blood
- Museo del Duomo, the museum of the cathedral in the crypt.
There are Roman cinerary urns and sarcophaguses and many
interesting sculptures (the bust of Sigilgaida Rufolo,
one of the most beautiful sculptures in Western art of
1200 in Southern Italy), shrines of saints Barbara, Lawrence
and Thomas
- San Giovanni del Toro Church built in 975, there is an
ambo of XII century on finely decorated round arches supported
by four columns with four different capitals. The crypt
is finely decorated, too
- Santa Maria a Gradillo Church
of XII century, nobles used to meet there to discuss
public affairs. It’s
made of three naves divided by columns
- Museo del Corallo, a coral museum founded in 1986, there
are many coral products such as cameos from the Roman age
until XIX century
- Annunziata Church, now it is used for meetings and conferences
by Centro Universitario Europeo per i Beni Culturali
- Villa Rufolo, built in the
second half of XIII century, with two towers of Arab-Norman
style. The hall of the tower at the entrance is decorated
with small crossed arches on the walls and on the vaults.
At the corner there are four big statues portraying Charity
and Hospitality, both important values in Villa Rufolo.
The house has three floors. On the left there is the
main tower, Torre maggiore, almost 30 m high, on the
right there is the courtyard, like a small cloister.
Through a charming boulevard, visitors arrive to Richard
Wagner’s terrace (it’s called
Wagner’s terrace because the musician imagined that
this park was the magic garden of Klingsor in his masterpiece “Parsifal” on
26th May 1880). Each summer there is an important international
music festival. The garden is rich of coloured and wonderful
flowers: in it there is an Arab cloister. In the area called
Antiquarium, prepared in the ancient chapel, there are
remains and fragments found in the second half of XIX century
- Villa Cimbrone: on the left
there is a courtyard, an artistic reproduction of San
Francesco cloister. On the left there is the so-called “crypt”, that is
a terrace on the sea. On the right there is a tower built
for defence with four floors. It is part of a "castle" decorated
like Villa Rufolo. The boulevard is decorated by statues
and small temples like the one of Bacchus. At its end there
is “Belvedere di Mercurio”, the most prominent
place of Ravello with one of the most beautiful panoramas
in the world

from the Far East
